A novel scheme to acquire enhanced up-conversion emissions of Ho3+ and Yb3+ co-doped Sc2O3

A detailed investigation about the effect of Sc₂O₃: 1 mol%Ho³⁺/5 mol%Yb³⁺ co-doped with Ce⁴⁺ ions prepared by sol-gel methods was performed systematically. Under the excitation of 980 nm laser diode, both green emission (553 nm, ⁵F₄/⁵S₂→⁵I₈) and red emission (672 nm, ⁵F₅→⁵I₈) were both observed in the emission spectra of the samples, which were found to be two-photon process and sensitized by Yb³⁺ ions. With the increasing of Ce⁴⁺ ions, the up-conversion green emission intensity are increased by 6.52, 8.69, 10.85, 13.92 and 16.66 fold, corresponding to the Ce⁴⁺ ions concentrations from 5 mol% to 13 mol%, respectively. The number of photons are necessary to populate the upper emitting state decreases to 2 and the infrared absorption coefficient is reduced, when the Ce⁴⁺ ions concentration increase to 13 mol%. Ce⁴⁺ ions play an important role in tailoring the local crystal field around Ho³⁺ ions, lowering the highest phonon cut-off energy of matrix and reducing the infrared absorption coefficient, thus hindering the non-radiative processes, which contribute to the increased emission intensity. The excellent enhancement makes it a promising multifunctional optical luminescence material.     

Microextraction of metal ions based on solidification of a floating drop: Basics and recent updates

This review provides a comprehensive evaluation of solidified floating organic drop microextraction (SFODME) procedures for metal ions preconcentration and their contributions to green chemistry. In this article we focused on the modifications that have been performed in the recent years to improve this environmentally friendly procedure. Among the most important of these modifications are the inclusion of ultrasonic energy, vortex and air agitation to enhance the dispersion process. The article also discussed new challenges in the procedure by using more ecofriendly solvents as extractants such as ionic liquids, deep eutectic. and supramolecular solvents. The coupling of SFODME with solid phase extraction increases selectivity and efficiency of the preconcentration procedure.     

Quinones for redox flow batteries

Quinones are electroactive species that have shown great promise for redox flow batteries due to the ability to tune their properties and to act as both negative and positive electrolytes. The following review outlines highlights of work in the last couple of years working to provide materials with higher stability, solubility, and performance. Developments toward stable negolytes have provided opportunities for potential commercial opportunities when paired with alternate chemistries. However, the stability of quinones in high potential electrolytes is still not sufficient and the number of potential quinones limited.     

一类非线性Schr(o)dinger方程的守恒差分法与Fourier谱方法

考察了一类带导数项的非线性Schrodinger方程的周期边值问题，提出了一种守恒的差分格式，在空间方向上采用Fourier谱方法，证明了格式的稳定性和收敛性．数值试验得到了与理论分析一致的结果．     

Sm3+掺杂稀土硼酸盐玻璃的光谱参数计算和荧光光谱分析

制备了具有高效可见荧光发射的Sm3 掺杂稀土硼酸盐(LBLB)玻璃,对玻璃的吸收和荧光光谱展开了测试与分析.根据Judd-Ofelt理论对吸收光谱进行了拟合,求得Sm3 离子的晶场调节参数Ωt=(2,4,6)分别为6.81×10-20,4.43×10-20和2.58×10-20 cm2,并进一步计算出各能级跃迁的谱线强度、自发辐射跃迁概率、辐射寿命和荧光分支比等光谱参数.紫外光激发下,Sm3 掺杂LBLB玻璃发出明亮的橙红色光.激发光谱表明,氩离子激光器是Sm3 掺杂LBLB玻璃有效的激发光源.     

Influence of the Type of a Ligand on the Intensity of Luminescence of Ln3+ Ions in Aqueous Solutions

The luminescence characteristics of hydrated Ln³⁺ ions and their complexes with some acidic ligands have been investigated. The possibility of determining the stability of the complexes of lanthanides in solutions from the intensity of luminescence bands is shown. The influence of the characteristic features of the f-electron shell of Ln³⁺ on the formation of the spectrochemical series is discussed.     

Stationary entanglement between macroscopic mechanical oscillators

We show that the optomechanical coupling between an optical cavity mode and two movable cavity mirrors is able to entangle two different macroscopic oscillation modes of the mirrors. This continuous variable entanglement is maintained by the light bouncing between the mirrors and is robust against thermal noise. Radial and angular correlation in heliumlike ions

In the framework of nonrelativistic variational formalism a new type of basis set is proposed, to estimate separately the effect of radial and angular correlations on the ground‐state energy for helium isoelectronic sequence H^? to Ar¹⁶⁺. Effect of radial correlation is incorporated by using multiexponential functions arising from product basis sets suitably formed out of Slater‐type one‐particle orbitals. The angular correlation can be switched on by incorporating an expansion in terms of basis involving interparticle coordinates. With a set of six‐term Slater‐type one‐particle basis and five‐term interparticle expansion, the ground‐state energy of helium is estimated as ?2.9037236 (a.u.) compared with the multiterm variational estimates ?2.9037244 (a.u.) due to Pekeris and Thakkar and Smith and Drake. Matrix elements of different operators in the ground state have been calculated and found to be in good agreement with available accurate results. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
